Whitney Young, Jr. (1922 - 1971) - Championed equal opportunity for African Americans as Director, national Urban League (1961-1971). Born in Lincoln Ridge while father was President of Lincoln Institute. Graduate of Kentucky State University. Received MA from the University of Minnesota. Dean of School of Social Work at Atlanta Unviersity, 1954-1961. Served on seven presidential commissions. Wrote TO BE EQUAL and BEYOND RACISM. Received Medal of Freedom, nation's highest civilian award.
