Charles Henry Parrish

​Charles Henry Parrish, Sr. (1859 - 1931) - A leader in Kentucky's Anti-separate Coach Movement, he protested to the Governor in 1892 about proposed State law requiring racial segregation of train passengers. Born a slave in Lexington, Kentucky. A graduate of Louisville Normal and Theological Institute (later known as Simmons University). Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Founded Kentucky Home Society for Colored Children. President of Simmons University (1918 - 1931). As president of Louisville chapter NAACP secured legal counsel for test case, Buchanan v. Warley. Named to executive committee of the World Baptist Alliance in 1923.
