Charles W. Anderson, Jr. (1907 - 1960) - Kentucky's first black legislator and the first black lawmaker in the South since Reconstruction. Elected to the General Assembly in 1935 and served six terms. Sponsored measures to improve educational opportunities for blacks. Attended Kentucky State College (later known as Kentucky State University). Earned law degree from Howard University. Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for Jefferson County in 1946 - the first black lawyer to occupy such an office in the South. Appointed Alternate Delegate to U.N. by President Eisenhower.
